“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Romans 12:2
In this piece, the journey of transformation is captured through abstract mindscapes-shifting, evolving patterns that symbolize the renewal of the mind.
The tension between worldly influences and divine inspiration is depicted through contrasting elements: the chaos of cityscapes and consumer culture versus the peace of nature, light, and spirituality.
The light breaking through symbolizes the enlightenment that comes from aligning with God’s will-illuminating the path to truth. What makes this artwork even more meaningful is the process itself.
The canvas is not just a surface, but an active participant in the transformation. I found an old, discarded painting, left behind and forgotten, and through the process of reworking and layering, it has been given new life and purpose.
Just as the mind and heart can be renewed by God’s truth, this canvas too has been reborn-transformed into something beautiful and purposeful once more. The use of different acrylic paints and techniques -from bold, vibrant strokes to soft, flowing textures-creates organic shapes that add depth and dimension to the work, symbolizing the evolving journey of spiritual growth. Each layer represents the complexity and richness of the transformation, as new colors and forms emerge from the foundation, just as our lives do when we choose renewal over conformity.
As Romans 12:2 reminds us:”Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing, and perfect will.”
This transformation is not passive-it requires the will to choose truth, pursue virtue, and seek God. St. Augustine beautifully captured this in *On the Free Choice of the Will*
(Book II):”The will is the cause of all things. The will to know the truth, the will to pursue virtue, the will to find God-this is the reality that makes us human.”
Just as this painting has found a new purpose, we too can be renewed and aligned with God’s perfect will, transforming our discarded, broken parts into something beautiful.
Let the light of truth guide you on your path.
